The Partner 1 is composed of 2 participants, LA (PI: M. Mallet) and CNRM-GAME (PI: G. Roberts). LA and CNRM have excellent experience in setting up measurements of aerosol physical and chemical properties. In the past, they have together developped and currently apply in the field (FP6-AMMA) a coherent ensemble of ground surface measurements.
The Partner 2 LISA (PI: P. Formenti) covers an ensemble of expertises relevant for characterizing the physico-chemical and optical properties of atmospheric aerosols and their direct radiative impact, with a focus on mineral dust particles.
This includes :
The development and operations of ground-based sampling stations in different environments and the expertise on the scientific use of the data
The development of aircraft aerosol samplers onboard aircraft and the expertise on the scientific use of the data
The modelling of aerosol optical properties based on in situ observations
The Partner 3 LOA (PI: D. Tanre) has large and recognized competence in “aerosol remote sensing” and will give complementary competences compared to the other partners. Furthermore and due to the fact that aerosol satellite retrievals are easier over the sea compared to continental surfaces, the satellite remote sensing of aerosols represents here a very power tool to constrain 3D regional simulations.
In addition to LISA, LOA and LA, the International Centre for Theoretical Physics ICTP and the CNRM (Meteo-France) will participate to the ADRIMED project related to the Regional Climate simulations. These institutes are well qualified with a high expertise in regional climate simulations over the Mediterranean basin through numerous participations to European and international programs : CIRCE, PRUDENCE, ENSEMBLE and the Med-CORDEX projects.
ADRIMED also includes two sub-contracted partners : (1) LSCE for aerosol chemical analysis and (2) SAFIRE for aircraft ATR 42 & F-20 operations
